A study has discovered a potential early predictor for post-COVID-19 pulmonary complications. In a multicenter study of COVID-19 pneumonia patients, 2-month periostin levels were found to be associated with the presence of fibrotic pulmonary changes at the 12-month mark. This finding underscores the importance of identifying individuals at risk for long-term fibrotic sequelae following COVID-19 infection. The study also revealed significant improvements in pulmonary function over time for most patients, offering hope for recovery.
