Biomaterials augmented with filtered bone marrow aspirate for the treatment of talar osteochondral lesions

This study assesses the clinical outcomes and safety of a combined single-step approach using scaffolds (fibrin glues, collagen gels, collagen-hydroxyapatite membrane) and filtered Bone Marrow Aspirate (fBMA) for treating osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs). The investigation involves 35 patients with a minimum 1-year follow-up. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and serious adverse events (SAE) are evaluated, with a focus on identifying factors influencing postoperative improvements. The study finds that scaffolds augmented with fBMA provide a safe and effective treatment for OLTs, emphasizing the potential impact of cellular parameters on treatment outcomes.
