Living with bipolar disorder significantly increases the risk of premature death, surpassing the impact of smoking. People with bipolar disorder were four to six times more likely to die prematurely than those without the condition. This risk was higher than that associated with smoking or age over 60. The findings highlight the urgent need for preventive measures and awareness campaigns regarding mental health, as bipolar disorder poses a more significant threat to life than commonly recognized factors.
