
A study of 103 youths with MDD and 72 healthy controls (62% female, ages 12–18) found increased psychological stress but reduced cortisol, testosterone, and oxytocin responses in MDD. Elevated baseline testosterone was also observed. These findings suggest a disrupted stress regulation system in depressed adolescents, highlighting potential targets for intervention.
