BMI change during childhood, DNA methylation change at TXNIP, and glucose change during midlife

This study aimed to examine the association between changes in DNA methylation (DNAm) at TXNIP and glycemic changes, as well as whether this association varied with early-life adiposity changes. The study included 594 participants from the Bogalusa Heart Study who had DNAm measurements at two time points in midlife. Among these participants, 353 had multiple BMI measurements during childhood and adolescence. The findings revealed that an increase in DNAm at TXNIP was significantly associated with a decrease in fasting plasma glucose (FPG), independent of covariates. Importantly, this association was found to be modified by trends in BMI during childhood and adolescence. The study highlights the role of DNAm at TXNIP in glycemic changes and its interaction with early-life adiposity.
