Brain cortical assessment by MRI in fetuses with left congenital diaphragmatic hernia

This study aimed to assess fetal brain development in cases of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A total of 52 fetuses with isolated left CDH and 104 control fetuses were included. Various brain measurements and cortical structures were compared between the two groups. The results showed that CDH fetuses had a smaller brain fronto-occipital diameter and reduced insular depth, as well as deeper cingulate and insular fissures. Additionally, the third ventricle width was greater in CDH fetuses. These findings suggest that CDH may have an impact on fetal brain development, leading to an overall reduction in brain volume
