CABG Outperforms PCI in Short-Term Survival for AMI-CS Patients

A retrospective study on 1198 AMI-CS patients supported by percutaneous ventricular assist device (PVAD) found that those undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) had significantly lower 30- and 90-day all-cause mortality rates than those treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), with rates of 26.2% vs. 39.9% at 30 days and 45.5% vs. 58.4% at 90 days (p = 0.004). Cardiac-related mortality was also lower in the CABG group at both time points, though not statistically significant. The Cox model indicated no significant association between revascularization strategy and mortality, suggesting CABG as a viable short-term treatment for AMI-CS patients under PVAD support. These findings support CABG’s feasibility in improving outcomes for critically ill patients in this context.
