
This study investigated the association between the number of CAG and GGN repeats in the androgen receptor (AR) gene and idiopathic inguinal cryptorchidism in pediatric Chilean individuals. A total of 109 cases with cryptorchidism and 140 controls were analyzed. The results showed that the CAG26 allele was increased in the cases, particularly in bilateral cases. CAG>22 alleles were also more frequent in cases, especially in bilateral cryptorchidism. CAG<18 alleles were absent in cases but present in controls. No significant differences were found for GGN repeats. The findings suggest that longer CAG alleles may be associated with a higher risk of bilateral cryptorchidism, while CAG<18 alleles may reduce the probability of cryptorchidism.
