Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes found that behavioral weight management programs (BWMPs) can reduce cardiovascular risk factors even after weight regain, but their impact on the incidence of cardiovascular disease and diabetes is uncertain. The study analyzed 124 randomized trials of BWMPs in adults with overweight/obesity and found that the effects on cardiometabolic outcomes lasted at least 5 years after program end, but were reduced with weight regain. However, the evidence on reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease or diabetes was imprecise. About 22% of the included studies were judged to be at high risk of bias.
