Can we reverse the trend? Insights on improving cardiovascular health in America

Cardiovascular disease has been identified as a major reason for stagnant life expectancy growth in the US since 2010. The American Heart Association has released an updated algorithm for assessing cardiovascular health, called Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score. A study conducted on a nationally representative sample of 23,003 US adults found that adhering to a high CVH, as defined by the LE8 score, is associated with a significantly increased life expectancy of up to 8.9 years at age 50. This increase was largely attributed to a reduction in cardiovascular disease death.
