This systematic review examined the evidence regarding the use of breathing exercises alone or in combination with pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) for the treatment of urinary incontinence (UI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). The study analyzed short-term experimental studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from various databases. The results indicated that PFMT was more effective than breathing exercises in improving pelvic floor muscle variables, UI, and POP. The review found no additional benefits when breathing exercises were added to PFMT. Overall, the evidence supporting using breathing exercises as a standalone or adjunct intervention for UI and POP was limited.
