
The diabetes drug canagliflozin shows promise in improving non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment. The study reveals that canagliflozin inhibits NSCLC cell growth and enhances the effectiveness of radiotherapy. It achieves this by suppressing genes related to hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α stability, activating AMPK, and inhibiting mTOR. Canagliflozin's impact is partly through HIF-1α suppression. It also targets histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2), which influences NSCLC prognosis. Additionally, evidence suggests that canagliflozin enhances NSCLC response to chemotherapy. This study suggests that canagliflozin could be a promising addition to NSCLC treatment when combined with cytotoxic therapy, offering hope for better outcomes.
