Cardiometabolic risk profile among children with migrant parents and role of parental education: the IDEFICS/I.Family cohort

A recent study reveals higher cardiometabolic health risks in European children with two migrant parents compared to those with native parents. The study involved 8745 children aged 2-17 from the European IDEFICS/I. The family cohort found that children with two migrant parents had elevated BMI and metabolic syndrome scores. However, no significant differences were observed for children with one migrant parent. Factors like maternal BMI and sports club activity played a role in these associations, with stronger effects seen in families with low parental education. The findings emphasize the need for early intervention strategies in schools and communities.
