The study aimed to determine the difference in eosinophil activation between two subtypes of primary diffuse type 2 chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS): Central Compartment Atopic Disease (CCAD) and Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis (eCRS). The results showed that eosinophil and eotaxin-3 levels were higher in eCRS than in CCAD, indicating a stronger stimulation and chemotaxis of eosinophils. In addition, CCAD patients were found to be younger. Further research and biomarkers may help distinguish between different subpopulations of CRS.
