Ceftibuten-Avibactam Shows Strong Activity Against Resistant Isolates

Ceftibuten-avibactam shows powerful efficacy against cephalosporin-resistant outpatient isolates. In a study of 500 US samples, ceftibuten alone had low susceptibility (64% CLSI; 23% EUCAST), but when combined with avibactam, 96.4% were inhibited at ≤1 µg/mL. Other agents performed lower, except fosfomycin (96.8%) and ceftazidime-avibactam (99.6%). This combination could offer a strong oral option against resistant Enterobacterales.
