A recent study used voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping (VLSM) to assess the distribution of cerebral lesion sites in patients with neurosarcoidosis (NS). The study found that NS patients had white matter lesions distributed throughout the brain, with a preference for periventricular regions similar to multiple sclerosis (MS). However, unlike MS, there was no association with lesions near the corpus callosum. The VLSM analysis revealed cortical involvement in the bilateral frontal cortex, suggesting a specific feature of NS. Lesion load was lower in NS than MS, but no distinctive pattern of subcortical white matter lesions was identified.
