Cerebrospinal Fluid Neuronal Pentraxin-2 Levels Linked to Alzheimer's Disease Progression and Brain Metabolism

A retrospective analysis of 49 Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients, categorizing them into early MCI (EMCI) and late MCI (LMCI) groups based on time until dementia onset. Neuronal pentraxin-2 (NPTX2) levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were measured, revealing higher values in EMCI compared to both LMCI and controls. Correlations were found between CSF NPTX2 and brain metabolism, particularly in the precuneus region, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for AD staging and progression risk stratification.
