The study aimed to examine the impact of detraining during the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of bony injuries and stress fractures in collegiate athletes. Analysis of a comprehensive collegiate athletic conference injury database from January 2016 to June 2021 revealed a total of 868 bony injuries across 23 sports. Comparing the pre- and post-hiatus periods, female cross-country runners exhibited a significantly lower bony injury rate in the post-hiatus season, while male swimmers showed a notable increase. Moreover, the proportion of bony injuries attributed to repetitive trauma increased, whereas those attributed to running decreased during the post-hiatus season.
