In a study of 3,115 U.S. caregivers, researchers found that childcare unreliability, disruptions, and active searching were all linked to increased emotional distress. Including childcare search status improved distress prediction. Latent class analysis revealed five distinct precarity profiles, each associated with varying emotional outcomes. These findings support a multidimensional view of childcare precarity for targeted family support and policy reform.
