The randomized, double-blind trial with 215 participants tested its effects on persistent olfactory dysfunction. The chitosan group showed a 4.55-point TDI score improvement, though below clinical significance (5.5 points). Discrimination and identification improved, but threshold scores remained unchanged. Chitosan also reduced nasal calcium levels. Larger trials are needed to confirm these promising findings.
