Cholinergic Brain Changes Linked to Amyloid in Adults with Down Syndrome

A new study reveals that non-demented adults with Down syndrome have greater cholinergic terminal density compared to amyloid-matched controls. However, individuals with higher amyloid levels show reduced cholinergic density. These changes, associated with cognitive performance, highlight the early impact of Alzheimer’s pathology on the cholinergic system in Down syndrome.
