Chronic Pain Conditions Worsen Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Severity

This study explores the prevalence of chronic overlapping pain conditions (COPCs) in patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and their effect on illness severity. Analyzing data from 923 participants, researchers found that 76% of ME/CFS patients had at least one COPC, with chronic migraine/headache and fibromyalgia being the most common. The presence of COPCs significantly worsened health measures, particularly pain attributes. Effective assessment and management of these comorbidities may enhance quality of life for ME/CFS patients.
