A large population study from the Swedish Cardiopulmonary Bioimage Study (SCAPIS) investigated the relationship between chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and various airway diseases in 30,154 adults aged 50–64 years. The study found CRS to be significantly associated with chronic airflow limitation (CAL), lower airway symptoms, chronic bronchitis, asthma, and COPD. Notably, CRS was more prevalent in individuals with CAL, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema, and the findings stress the importance of considering the entire airway system's inflammatory status in these patients, whether or not they smoke.
