In 2021, there were 58.4 million incident cases, 1.4 million deaths, and 46.4 million DALYs related to cirrhosis and chronic liver diseases globally. From 2010 to 2021, age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) rose by 0.35%, while deaths and DALYs decreased. The increase in ASIRs was driven by metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which accounted for 48.3 million cases in 2021. Deaths and DALYs due to MASH increased in the Americas but declined in other regions.
