Clinical outcomes after total excision of transobturator tape inserted for treatment of stress urinary incontinence

A study aimed to report the clinical outcomes of women who underwent transobturator tape (TOT) excision for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in a specialist mesh center. Forty-five women underwent telephone review on average 27.9 months after TOT excision. Improvement in pain was reported by 58% of women, but 24.4% reported worsening pain. Additionally, 65% of women reported worsening of existing SUI, and 75% developed new SUI. Despite these complications, 62% of women felt better after their excision. The study highlights the importance of outcome data for counseling women about the risks and benefits of TOT excision, as conventional outcome measures may not capture all important outcomes for patients.
