Clinical outcomes of long-term inhaled combination therapies in patients with bronchiectasis and airflow obstruction

A retrospective study on bronchiectasis patients with airflow obstruction compared the efficacy and safety of different inhaled combination therapies. The ICS/LABA/LAMA group showed lower exacerbation risk in patients with blood eosinophil count (BEC) ≥ 300/uL, while the ICS/LABA group also demonstrated reduced risk. However, in patients with BEC < 200/uL, ICS/LABA was associated with accelerated FEV1 decline compared to LABA/LAMA therapy. The study suggests BEC as a potential biomarker for inhaled corticosteroid use in bronchiectasis patients, emphasizing the importance of personalized treatment approaches.
