Co-Occurrence of Fecal Incontinence With Constipation or IBS: The Need for Personalized Treatment

The study compared the prevalence and symptoms of fecal incontinence (FI) about irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-associated FI), constipation (constipation-associated FI), and isolated FI. Data from 3145 respondents were analyzed, revealing a 10.5% prevalence of FI in the non-comorbidity group. IBS and constipation were found to be significant factors contributing to FI. Of the FI respondents, 32.2% had IBS-associated FI, 36.2% had constipation-associated FI, and 31.6% had isolated FI.
