The study compared the accuracy and prevalence of root contact during orthodontic self-drilling mini-implant placement using three techniques: conventional freehand (FHT), augmented reality tooth-based navigation (AR TOOTH), and augmented reality screw-based navigation (AR SCREWS). The results indicated significant differences in accuracy between the groups, with the AR TOOTH technique showing the most accurate results. Additionally, the navigation techniques led to fewer complications, such as root perforations, compared to the conventional freehand technique. In conclusion, augmented reality-based navigation improves accuracy and reduces complications in mini-implant placement.
