Comparative Study of Oral Microbiota in Dai and Han Populations with T2DM

This study compared the oral microbiota of Dai and Han populations with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It involved 28 Han and 34 Dai participants, including healthy children, healthy adults, and adults with T2DM. The analysis revealed that age significantly influenced microbiota composition, with diabetes having a lesser effect. In the Dai population with T2DM, there was an increase in Alistipes putredinis, Lactobacillus spp., Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, and Akkermansia muciniphila, compared to the Han population. The microbial network in the Dai population was more centralized around Fusibacter, whereas the Han network was more scattered. This study provides insights into the ethnic and age-related variations in oral microbiota related to T2DM.
