A study comparing aflibercept (AFL) and ranibizumab (RAN) for diabetic macular edema (DME) treatment found no significant difference in visual acuity or macular thickness at 6 and 12 months. AFL required fewer injections than RAN, with similar adverse reactions. Meta-analysis of 8 randomized controlled trials involving 1067 eyes showed comparable efficacy and safety profiles for AFL and RAN in DME treatment. This suggests AFL's potential as an alternative with reduced treatment burden.
