Comparing Aflibercept and Ranibizumab in Treating Age-Related Macular Degeneration with Retinal PED

The study evaluated the effectiveness of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with retinal pigment epithelial detachment (PED). This systematic review, including one randomized controlled trial and six observational studies with 1,069 patients, found that intravitreal aflibercept (IVA) outperformed intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) in terms of improving visual acuity, reducing PED height, and achieving PED regression. Additionally, IVA required fewer injections than IVR. These results suggest that IVA is superior to IVR in treating AMD with PED, showing better outcomes with fewer injections.
