
A recent study between 2016 and 2022 compared the effectiveness of three different approaches for screening pre-eclampsia (PE) in pregnant women at 35 to 36 weeks of gestation. The approaches included measuring placental growth factor (PlGF) concentration, the ratio of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) to PlGF concentration, and a competing-risk model combining maternal risk factors with biomarkers. The study found that the triple test using the competing-risk model outperformed PlGF alone and the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio in predicting PE within 1 week, 2 weeks, and any time after the screening. The results suggest the triple test as a more effective method for PE screening during late pregnancy.
