A new study suggests that the 24‐2 test pattern in automated perimetry is as effective as the broader 30‐2 pattern in detecting visual field defects in patients with pituitary region tumors. A retrospective study found no patient was misclassified when evaluated with the 24‐2 test pattern. Surprisingly, visual field defects were not exclusively located in the temporal visual field, and many patients had normal visual acuity. The study concludes that the 24‐2 test pattern is reliable for detecting visual field defects, and traditional parameters like mean deviation and visual field index may not accurately assess compression-related defects.
