Comparison of two emergency cervical cerclage techniques in twin pregnancies

A retrospective study reveals the effectiveness of emergency cervical cerclage (ECC) with the McDonald‐Shirodkar technique for twin pregnancies between 18 and 26 weeks with cervical dilation. The study indicates that this approach significantly increases gestational age at delivery, prolongs pregnancy, and reduces the risk of preterm birth, especially when cervical dilation is ≥3 cm. Additionally, neonatal outcomes, including birth weight and perinatal mortality, improve with the combined technique. These findings suggest ECC with the McDonald‐Shirodkar procedure benefits twin pregnancies, particularly those with cervical dilation of 3 to 6 cm and prolapsed membranes.
