Congenital hypotonia: systematic approach for prenatal detection

A recent study conducted at a tertiary center aimed to characterize the prenatal manifestation of congenital hypotonia and propose diagnostic models for its early detection. The study involved 26 cases of congenital hypotonia, of which 38.5% were diagnosed prenatally. Various diagnostic tests, including ultrasound scans, genetic tests, and imaging, were used to assess the condition. The study found that a targeted scan significantly increased the prenatal detection rate, and comprehensive genetic testing, particularly whole-exome sequencing, was crucial for accurate diagnosis. The study suggests potential diagnostic models that could improve prenatal detection rates for congenital hypotonia, a rare condition with significant variability in symptoms and severity.
