
The study suggested that contemporary genetic risk scores can predict the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) in adolescents and young adults. The study involved autopsies on 2876 individuals aged 15 to 34. The results showed that genetic scores for CAD and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol were significantly correlated with the presence of raised lesions, indicating early stages of coronary atherosclerosis. The findings highlight the importance of genetic predisposition, particularly for elevated LDL cholesterol, in the development of premature atherosclerosis.
