The study investigates COVID-19 outcomes in individuals with severe hereditary alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). Of 863 patients, 231 reported COVID-19 infections, with 23 experiencing severe disease. COPD significantly increased the risk of severe COVID-19, with a 5-fold higher risk for patients with COPD compared to those without. The findings highlight the importance of managing COPD in individuals with AATD to reduce severe COVID-19 outcomes.
