Cortical Inflammation Detected in Migraine with Aura Using MRI

Cortical inflammation may play a key role in migraine with aura." This study identified higher quantitative T2 (qT2) and elevated apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in migraine patients, especially those with aura. Using advanced MRI techniques, researchers found increased qT2 in the occipital cortex of migraine participants (p < 0.0001), with the highest changes in the migraine with aura group. These findings highlight the importance of cortical inflammation in migraine pathophysiology.
