The present systematic review and meta-analysis examined the association between hearing loss and exfoliation syndrome (XFS). The study found that HL is associated with XFS, and patients with XFS were more likely to have moderate to profound sensorineural HL. The authors suggest that further investigation into XFS may improve our understanding of presbycusis. The study included 21 publications and 1148 patients with XFS and 1212 controls. The results indicate that a sensorineural component to HL is confirmed, and mixed HL is possible in patients with XFS.
