COVID-19 and Heart Health: Are Healthcare Workers at Risk of Long-Term Damage?

The study authors investigated the association of healthcare worker status with the multisystem illness trajectory in hospitalized individuals after COVID-19. The study found that healthcare workers had less acute inflammation, milder illness, and a shorter duration of admission compared to non-healthcare workers. However, healthcare worker status was independently associated with the likelihood of adjudicated myocarditis, despite better antecedent health. Additionally, fewer healthcare workers died or were re-hospitalized, and secondary care referrals for post-COVID-19 syndrome were common.
