COVID-19-Related Pleural Diseases

COVID-19-related pleural diseases, such as pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, and pleural effusion, have become increasingly common and are not merely incidental or caused by barotrauma. Managing patients with pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum is particularly challenging as many require assisted ventilation, leading physicians to intervene more frequently. Evidence suggests that patients with COVID-19-related pleural diseases have a more severe illness and poorer prognosis. Early recognition and targeted management of these complications are crucial for improving outcomes.
