
The study assessed the impact of curcumin gel combined with scaling and root planing (SRP) on salivary procalcitonin in treating periodontitis. Seventy patients were initially selected, with groups undergoing SRP or curcumin gel treatment. Clinical indices and procalcitonin levels were measured at baseline and after six weeks. Group III, receiving curcumin gel after SRP, exhibited greater improvement in plaque index, probing depth, and clinical attachment level than group II (SRP alone). Notably, both curcumin gel and SRP led to a significant decrease in procalcitonin levels after six weeks. The findings suggest that curcumin gel has a notable impact on periodontitis treatment compared to SRP alone.
