In a groundbreaking study, the OVHIPEC-1 trial revealed that adding hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to interval cytoreductive surgery significantly enhanced survival for stage III epithelial ovarian cancer patients ineligible for primary surgery. The 10-year follow-up, involving 245 patients, demonstrated that the surgery-plus-HIPEC group had superior progression-free survival (14.3 months vs. 10.7 months) and overall survival (44.9 months vs. 33.3 months) compared to the surgery-only group. These findings underline the long-term efficacy of HIPEC in improving outcomes for this patient population, offering a significant stride in ovarian cancer treatment.
