
A randomized study with 16,209 participants found that low-dose aspirin reduced the incidence of type 2 diabetes by 15% in older adults, slowing the increase in fasting plasma glucose. However, aspirin use was associated with a 44% increase in major bleeding risk. Over a median 4.7-year follow-up, 995 cases of diabetes were recorded, with 459 in the aspirin group and 536 in the placebo group. The findings suggest a potential role for anti-inflammatory agents like aspirin in preventing diabetes in older adults, though the increased bleeding risk warrants consideration.
