Data-driven care for patients with neurodegenerative disorders

Data-driven approaches hold promise for advancing precision and cost-effective care for neurodegenerative diseases. However, ethical challenges must be addressed, particularly for individuals with intellectual impairments. Early diagnosis of conditions like mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) is crucial but complex. Big data from various sources, including health records, research cohorts, and self-monitoring devices, offer opportunities for personalized care and breakthroughs in research. AI-based tools can aid diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis, while population-level analyses can inform preventive initiatives. Challenges include over-diagnosis, proprietary sources of AI products, and regulatory oversight. Digitization, data sharing, and scientific guidelines are needed to harness the potential of data-driven approaches for neurodegenerative diseases.
