
A hospital-based study screened 751 newborns for sickle cell anemia, identifying 2.93% with the sickle cell trait. Dried blood spot (DBS) samples were analyzed alongside conventional venous blood (CBS) using HPLC. The results showed 100% sensitivity and specificity. Statistical analysis confirmed minimal bias, with a concordance correlation coefficient of 0.91 (p < 0.0001). Pearson’s ρ was 0.967, and Cohen’s kappa yielded 0.93, showing no significant differences between DBS and CBS methods.
