The study aimed to compare the outcomes of patients who underwent craniotomy or decompressive craniectomy surgery for a traumatic acute subdural hematoma. The primary outcome was assessed using the Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOSE) at 12 months. Secondary outcomes included GOSE rating at 6 months and quality of life assessed by the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire. The study found that disability and quality-of-life outcomes were similar with both approaches. However, additional surgery was performed in a higher proportion of the craniotomy group, while more wound complications occurred in the craniectomy group.
