A recent study delves into the role of depression in post-stroke functional recovery. The analysis was conducted in four intensive rehabilitation units. Among 234 eligible patients, 81 with Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores below 5.9 demonstrated a significant link between functional status at admission and rehabilitation effectiveness. Depression was shown to moderate this relationship independently of age and neurological impairment. This study highlights the importance of considering depression when tailoring stroke rehabilitation programs, as it can impact recovery outcomes. Identifying subgroups based on depression levels may improve patient-specific rehabilitation strategies.
