
A decade-long comprehensive study investigated the detection rates of major congenital malformations (MCM) in children. The study analyzing data from 1,138,113 liveborn children between 2006 and 2016 found that the cumulative proportion of children with detected MCM increased from 1.9% at birth to 4.7% at 3 years. Specific MCM subgroups, like those related to the eyes, ears-face-neck, nervous system, and genitals, exhibited delayed detection, with up to 59% more cases found at 3 years compared to 1 year. Preterm children showed a 2.5 times higher likelihood of MCM, emphasizing the importance of tailored follow-up protocols.
