The study aimed to create and validate a new prognostic index, BODEXS90, for predicting all-cause mortality in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. This index combines the BODEX index with peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) measured using finger oximetry. The research involved a multicenter cohort study, developing and validating the index on separate subject groups. BODEXS90 showed better predictive accuracy for mortality compared to BODEX, especially for severely affected patients. The inclusion of SpO2 independently enhanced prediction. The new index holds the potential for guiding clinical decisions in managing stable COPD cases.
